Tips for Protecting & Cleaning Recycled Glass Countertops
Regularly clean with hot water or a pH neutral cleaner (such as those for granite, marble, and quartz).
Do not use window or glass cleaner since most contain ammonia, which will cause the surface to become dull and etched. Glass won’t be damaged, but the binder can be damaged. Shine can be enhanced with topical polish.
Ordinary Spills
In case of an ordinary spill, wipe it up immediately. By doing so, the countertop will be less prone to damage caused by acidic drinks and foods.
Tough Stains
Use a poultice to remove embedded food stains (dark spots). Polishing powder may be used in some cases to remove scratches.
Use Cutting Boards and Trays
Cutlery and pots and pans should be placed on trivets and trays under coffee makers, soap dispensers and other bottles with liquids stored on top should be placed on coasters.
Sealing
Once or twice a year, recycled glass countertops (based on cement) must be resealed. Concrete matrix absorbs stains even though glass does not.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions when applying a sealer to concrete or your countertop.
Applying Wax or Stone Polish
With a polish designed for stone surfaces or a wax for cement surfaces, your recycled glass countertop will have a high shine. You can prevent stains from getting into your countertop by using it.
Using a soft cloth, buff the wax onto the surface until it gives off a glossy shine.
